Join Richard Martinson, a retired Coast Guard Commander, for an evening of practical and essential boating information. Topics include:
- How to successfully back a single screw vessel
- Reducing stress locking-through the Ballard Locks
- Cleats, Bitts and Securing Apparatus and their proper employment
- Why a child has a better chance of surviving in the water then an adult
- How to properly retrieve a person in the water
- Maritime legal representation
- The continued importance of paper charts
The hands-on activity will include learning to tie and use the most important common knots and properly using cleats and bitts.
General schedule for the evening:
- 6:30-7:00 Welcome and interesting insights from the pros
- 7:00-7:30 Hands-on lesson
- 7:30-8:00 Refreshments and socializing
This free workshop will take place in the Port of Edmonds Commission Room, on the second floor of the Port Administration building at 471 Admiral Way. Attendees are encouraged to RSVP so staff can plan for seating and refreshments, but drop-ins are welcome.
No prior experience required. Just curiosity and a love for the water!
