What do mariners, emergencies, and your kitchen junk drawer have in common?
Find out in this fast‑paced, hands‑on session with Sarah Scherer of Compass Courses/Maritime Institute. The evening kicks off with a quick look at how the Maritime Institute trains people for real‑world situations—then you’ll jump straight into building your own personal survival kit using everyday household items. Expect creativity, laughter, and practical takeaways you’ll actually use. It’s learning meets real life, no sea legs required.

Sarah started her career as a Cadet at Texas A&M Galveston and went on to sail on a wide range of vessels worldwide. Her shore‑side leadership spans maritime safety, workforce development, and industry advocacy, including serving as VP of Pacific Coast Operations for the Transportation Institute. She now leads Business Development for the Maritime Institute and actively mentors the next generation of maritime professionals.

This free workshop will take place in the Port of Edmonds Commission Room, on the second floor of the Port Administration building at 471 Admiral Way. Attendees are encouraged to RSVP so staff can plan for seating and refreshments, but drop-ins are welcome.

Beyond the Breakwater reflects the Port’s commitment to supporting local businesses, expanding community knowledge, and fostering a vibrant waterfront.

The Hookup Hut is your local source for bait and tackle. Look for their vending machine just south of the public launch at the Edmonds Marina!
