Underwater Clean-Up Dive with Annie Crawley

Sunday, November 16th, 9:00am-12:00pm

Annie Crawley’s Scuba Diving Team is kicking off its fall season with another bi-annual underwater clean-up dive at the marina to raise awareness about ocean pollution and help clean our local waters.

While divers must be pre-approved for this event, shore support is open to all. As shore support, you can help divers lift and haul marine debris, take photos, put animals back in the ocean that accidentally come out with the rubbish, and so much more. It is recommended that you dress warm and bring gloves and a bucket. look for the tent at the marina to sign in.

For questions you can email Annie Crawley at [email protected].

Restoring Sunflower Sea Stars: Reviving a Keystone of the Kelp Forest

Thursday, November 20th 6:30pm-8:00pm

Dr. Hodin is at the forefront of efforts to understand and restore the sunflower sea star (Pycnopodia helianthoides)—a massive, brightly colored echinoderm once abundant along the Pacific Coast, now listed as critically endangered after being devastated by sea star wasting disease. As an apex predator, sunflower stars keep purple urchin populations in check; without them, urchins overgraze kelp forests, unraveling entire coastal ecosystems.

Reserve your seat online; walk-ins are welcome on the night of the event, subject to available seating.

Tickets are $7.50 on Eventbrite: https://www.eventbrite.com/e/ewc-environmental-series-restoring-sunflower-sea-stars-tickets-1830946463159?aff=oddtdtcreator
